If yes, then what is a ‘Million Dollar Message’?  Well, for a more in-depth explanation you can grab my book on the topic by clicking on this link, but in this article I’m going to talk about the most common problem we fix for our clients, and that is finding their unique stand-out, first choice in their market, million dollar message.  Because the problem the vast majority of businesses have with their marketing is that they have what the experts call “me too” brands, and when you don’t have clear, understandable, premium marketing dominating leadership, you risk becoming one of many similar choices for your customers and seen as a commodity.

We also find that this is one of the areas that most makes inexperienced marketers uncomfortable because to define clearly who you are the best fit for, means also defining and getting pretty clear on who you don’t want as customers and repelling them.  This can naturally feel wrong to businesses who like to think that every person on the planet is a potential customer. Why would you want to polarize your message and repel anyone? Well, essentially it comes down to three main elements:

  1.  What are you or your business really superior at delivering?
  2. What is really going on in the minds, hearts, fears and desires of your best, most loyal customers?
  3. The Pareto Principle, the good old 80/20 rule, and that is that if you want to make your business more profitable in the shortest immediate time frame, you should be focused on the 20% of premium trade that is the easiest and most lucrative.  But most business owners get side-tracked running around trying to convert the 80% who are the hardest to please.

Developing Your Million Dollar Message will be magical for you and your business when you get it just right.  It will work to attract your ideal customers to you like life-long friends, and free your systems of the majority of tire-kickers and time wasters. Your ideal customers will be so relieved to find someone who finally understands them too.

It can be challenging to develop your own Million Dollar Message, it’s a process that can benefit greatly from the mastermind environment. But you can do it on your own by being very clear on the outcome or transformation that your ideal, premium customers are longing for.  Essentially you want your marketing and branding to talk to them in their language and give them certainty that you are the best and first, or only choice.  For instance, you can think about L’Oréal, in the supermarket the cosmetics and hair dye are all around the same price and on the same shelves.  But L’Oréal packaging is classy, and their slogan is “Because you’re worth it”
